Brisbane Road

Home of Leyton Orient FC

🏟️ Brief Description

Brisbane Road, officially known as the Gaughan Group Stadium, is the home of Leyton Orient FC and one of London’s most traditional lower-league football grounds. Located in Leyton, East London, the stadium has a capacity of just over 9,200, offering an intimate, close-to-the-pitch matchday experience that modern mega-stadiums can’t replicate.

Primarily used for league and cup football, Brisbane Road is also a regular host for women’s football, youth internationals, and community sporting events. Its compact design, loyal local support, and deep roots in East London football culture make it a favourite among traditionalists.

📝 History of Brisbane Road

Brisbane Road opened in 1937, when Leyton Orient moved from their previous home at Lea Bridge Road. Since then, the ground has been central to the club’s identity, witnessing promotions, relegations, financial struggles, and remarkable recoveries.

One of the most defining periods in the stadium’s modern history came in the late 1990s and early 2000s, when the ground was redeveloped into an all-seater stadium following the Taylor Report. This redevelopment preserved the stadium’s tight footprint while improving safety and facilities.

Brisbane Road has also played a role beyond Leyton Orient. It has hosted matches for Tottenham Hotspur Women, West Ham United Women, and various international youth and women’s fixtures, further embedding it into London’s wider football ecosystem. Despite changes in naming rights and minor modernisation, the stadium has retained its traditional feel and strong connection to the local community.
