Silverstone Transport Guide: Every Way to the Circuit

Silverstone has no train station of its own and sits well outside London, so getting there is less about a quick Tube hop and more about picking the right combination of train-plus-shuttle, coach or park and ride before you set off. Race weekends draw crowds in the hundreds of thousands, and the approach roads and car parks are the real bottleneck. This guide ranks every way to get to Silverstone Circuit, how to leave fast, and the accessible options.

Buffer is set to gates minus 60 minutes. Silverstone’s circuit capacity runs to around 140,000 on race day, there is no station at the venue itself, and the approach roads and park and ride sites see their heaviest queues in the final hour before the circuit opens — 60 minutes is the realistic minimum, and earlier is safer for a full Grand Prix weekend.

Getting home after

Shuttle bus back to your station
Head back to Gate 1 or 19 for the return shuttle to Milton Keynes Central or Northampton — services keep running for 30 minutes after the day’s action finishes.
Park & Ride return
If you drove in via Sixfields or Turweston, the return shuttle buses run continuously after the session ends — allow time for the queue as the whole car park empties at once.
Driving out without a plan
Anyone who parked on-site or nearby without a pre-booked exit route faces the circuit’s well-known post-race gridlock — the approach roads can take hours to clear after a Grand Prix.

Step-free & accessible

Silverstone runs a dedicated external Accessibility Shuttle Bus for visitors with limited mobility, coordinated by the venue’s Access Team, with pick-up points at Luffield, Woodcote, Copse, Club, Hamilton Straight and Brooklands Gates (plus the Main Stage in the evenings), each with seating and cover.

Blue Badge parking is available at all Park & Ride sites without needing to pre-book; on-site accessible parking is very limited and requires emailing a copy of your Blue Badge in advance after booking online.

There are no internal shuttles within the circuit itself due to crowd safety — plan your route to your seating area accordingly, and confirm current provision directly with Silverstone before travelling.

Frequently asked questions

What is the nearest station to Silverstone Circuit?
There is no station at the circuit. Milton Keynes Central and Northampton are the nearest, each around 15–18 miles away, with an official shuttle bus running direct from both to the circuit gates.
Can I get a direct train to Silverstone?
No — you’ll need to combine a train to Milton Keynes Central, Northampton, Banbury, Oxford Parkway or Coventry with the official shuttle bus, which drops you a 2-minute walk from Gate 1 or Gate 19.
Is there parking at Silverstone?
Limited on-site parking exists but must be pre-booked and can sell out. Most drivers use the official Park & Ride sites at Sixfields (M1 Junction 15a) or Turweston (M40 Junction 10), which include a return shuttle.
How early should I arrive at Silverstone?
Aim for gates minus 60 minutes at an absolute minimum. With around 140,000 attending on race day and no station at the venue, the approach roads and park and ride queues build well before the circuit opens.
Are there coaches to Silverstone?
Yes — National Express and Megabus run official coach services from major UK cities direct to event Gate 3 on Grand Prix weekends. Book ahead, as seats sell out.
