🗺️ Where to stay

The short version

The O2 is the one venue here with genuine hotels on its doorstep, which changes the calculation entirely. Greenwich Peninsula puts you minutes from the doors with no journey home at all. Canary Wharf is one stop away with far more stock, and often softer at weekends. Greenwich proper is the pick if you want the evening to be about more than the arena. Everything below is the detail.

Greenwich Peninsula — on the doorstep

North Greenwich station is a three-minute walk from the arena entrance, and there are hotels on the peninsula itself — a genuine rarity for a venue this size. Staying here means walking out of a sold-out show and being in your room within minutes, while twenty thousand people queue for the Jubilee line behind you.

For a late finish, a midweek gig or anyone travelling with children, that is worth a great deal. The trade-off is that the peninsula is a purpose-built entertainment district rather than a neighbourhood: excellent for the night itself, less charming the morning after.

Greenwich proper — the nicer evening

Maritime Greenwich, twenty minutes away by bus or a short DLR hop, is one of the most attractive parts of London: the market, the park, the Cutty Sark, and a proper spread of pubs and restaurants.

If the show is the centrepiece of a weekend rather than the whole trip, this beats the peninsula comfortably. Just plan the last leg back — it is close, but it is not walkable at midnight.

Canary Wharf — one stop, much more choice

A single Jubilee line stop from North Greenwich, with the Elizabeth line and DLR as well, and a large concentration of business hotels. The useful quirk is that a business district empties at the weekend, so rates there often move in the opposite direction to demand at the arena.

Worth checking whenever the peninsula looks stretched, which for a big billing it usually does.

Stratford

About ten minutes on the Jubilee line, with the Central and Elizabeth lines, the Overground and a large retail and eating centre attached. Plenty of rooms, good value, and easy onward travel the next morning.

Central London

Under twenty minutes on the Jubilee line to London Bridge, Waterloo and Bond Street, so a central base is entirely practical — and the river bus gives you a second, genuinely pleasant route in and out, with express services laid on after major events.

The cost is that you are making the journey home with the full crowd rather than walking away from it.

💰 What it costs

Why there’s no price on this page

The O2 hosts a couple of hundred events a year, and the billing drives everything. A midweek comedy date barely registers on local rates. A multi-night residency by a stadium-scale artist, a world title fight or the darts over the Christmas period fills the peninsula and pushes demand into Canary Wharf and Greenwich. Because the venue runs so often, the same weekend next month can look nothing like this one.

Any “from” figure printed on a page like this is stale the moment the fixture list moves, and it would tell you less than thirty seconds on a live search will. Two things do hold true across events: for a fixed-date, high-demand fixture, booking early beats hunting for a late deal; and flexing on area is almost always cheaper than flexing on date, because moving a couple of stops down the line costs far less than moving your travel.

⏰ Day trip or overnight

Do you actually need a room?

Three or four things decide it, and none of them is how far The O2 looks on a map.

💡 A useful test: if missing your last connection would mean an unplanned hotel anyway, book the planned one. You get to choose it, and you get to choose what you pay for it.

🏆 Routine fixture vs one-off

Not every date is the same booking

For a midweek show with a regional draw, book late and you will be fine. For a world title fight, a multi-night residency, the darts or an NBA game, several things change at once: the date is fixed and known months ahead, the audience travels nationally and internationally, and the small number of on-site rooms is taken almost immediately. From there demand moves to Canary Wharf, then Greenwich, then Stratford.

If you have tickets for a marquee night, book the room when you book nothing else. If you are waiting on a resale, take something cancellable in the meantime.

Coming from abroad

The O2 is well placed for London City Airport — close by via the DLR — and the Elizabeth line at Canary Wharf gives you a clean run to Heathrow without crossing the city centre. For an international trip built around one show, a Canary Wharf or peninsula base is unusually efficient.
