The Hundred London Transport Guide — Lord’s vs Kia Oval
Getting to a Hundred game in London depends on one thing: are you going to Lord’s (London Spirit) or the Kia Oval (MI London)? Both are central and very well connected — but they sit in completely different parts of the city. Here’s how to reach each, and how to leave without the post-match crush.

Unlike the NFL’s two outer-London stadiums, both Hundred grounds sit close to the centre of the city and are genuinely easy to reach. The Kia Oval is one of the most convenient major venues in London — six minutes from Vauxhall. Lord’s is a short walk from three Tube stations in St John’s Wood. Public transport is the right call for both — neither offers match-day parking.

Getting there — at a glance

Venue Best station Walk Verdict
Kia Oval Oval (Northern) 5 min Very easy
Kia Oval Vauxhall (Victoria · Rail) 6–8 min Best for exit
Lord’s St John’s Wood (Jubilee) 8–10 min Best for arrival
Lord’s Marylebone (Rail · Bakerloo) 15 min Out-of-town arrivals

Getting to the Kia Oval (MI London)

🚇 Oval Station

Northern

The closest Tube station — just a 5-minute walk to the ground. The most direct option on match day, with clear signage from the station to the turnstiles.
⏱ 5 min walk · Northern Line (Bank & Charing Cross branches)
💡 Closest for arrival, but the single Northern Line platform backs up fast after the men’s game — see the exit strategy below
🚇 Vauxhall Station
Victoria
National Rail
A 6–8 minute walk and the better-connected of the two — Victoria Line Tube plus South Western Railway trains into Waterloo. The smarter choice for leaving, with far more capacity than Oval station.
⏱ 6–8 min walk · Victoria Line · National Rail to Waterloo
💡 Arrive via Oval, leave via Vauxhall — the split-route trick that avoids the Northern Line bottleneck after the final ball

Getting to Lord’s (London Spirit)

🚇 St John’s Wood

Jubilee

The closest and most-used station for Lord’s — an 8–10 minute walk down Wellington Road to the Grace Gate. The main route, well-stewarded on match days.
⏱ 8–10 min walk · Jubilee Line
💡 The most direct route in — but everyone uses it, so for the exit consider walking to Marylebone or Baker Street instead
🚇 Marylebone & Baker Street
Bakerloo
National Rail
Marylebone (~15 min walk) is ideal for out-of-town arrivals via Chiltern Railways. Baker Street (~15 min) adds the Metropolitan, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Bakerloo lines — a strong multi-line option for both arriving and leaving.
⏱ ~15 min walk · Multiple lines + National Rail
💡 Baker Street’s five lines make it the best escape valve after a Lord’s game — the walk is worth it to skip the St John’s Wood queue
🚇 Warwick Avenue & Maida Vale

Bakerloo

Two quieter Bakerloo Line alternatives roughly 12–15 minutes away on the north-west side of the ground. Rarely busy, even after a sell-out.
⏱ 12–15 min walk · Bakerloo Line
💡 The local’s secret for leaving Lord’s — Warwick Avenue is calm while St John’s Wood is rammed

Post-match exit strategy

🏏 Leaving the Kia Oval
Most fans pour straight into Oval station and the single Northern Line backs up quickly. Instead, walk the extra couple of minutes to Vauxhall for the Victoria Line and National Rail — far more capacity and a quicker journey for most destinations.
🏟️ Leaving Lord’s
St John’s Wood is the obvious choice and therefore the busiest. Walk to Baker Street (five lines) or Warwick Avenue (quiet Bakerloo) instead and you’ll be moving while others queue. Or simply enjoy the ground for 20 minutes and let the crowd clear.

⚡ The split-route strategy
The single biggest time-saver at both grounds: arrive via the closest station, leave via a different one. Arrive at Oval, leave via Vauxhall. Arrive at St John’s Wood, leave via Baker Street or Warwick Avenue. It avoids the worst of the post-match bottleneck for the cost of a few extra minutes’ walking.

Driving & Parking

🚗 Driving to either ground
Not recommended for either venue. There’s no match-day parking at or near the Kia Oval, and Lord’s sits in a tightly controlled residential zone with very limited options. Both are inside or close to the Congestion Charge zone.
⚠️ The Kia Oval falls within the Congestion Charge zone and Lord’s is on its edge — combined with zero match-day parking, public transport is by far the easiest option for both.

Lord’s vs Kia Oval — transport comparison

Factor Kia Oval Lord’s
Closest station walk 5 min (Oval) 8–10 min (St John’s Wood)
Line options Northern, Victoria, Rail Jubilee, Bakerloo, Met, Rail
Exit ease Good via Vauxhall Good via Baker St
Parking None Very limited

Mistakes to avoid

⚠️
Leaving the Oval via Oval station

The single Northern Line platform bottlenecks fast. Vauxhall is a couple of minutes further and far quicker.
⚠️
Booking tight return trains

Double-headers run long — the men’s game can finish late into the evening. Allow buffer time.
⚠️
Driving to either ground

No parking and Congestion Charge make it slower and dearer than the Tube every time.

Frequently asked questions
