The Betfred Derby Festival returns to Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey in June 2027 for two days of the finest flat racing on the British calendar, featuring the Betfred Oaks on Ladies’ Day and the world’s most famous flat race — the Betfred Derby — on Derby Day. The Derby is the original race from which every derby in the world takes its name, first run at Epsom in 1780 and establishing the one-and-a-half-mile test as the defining examination of the three-year-old generation in flat racing. Epsom Downs is unique in world racing — a dramatic, undulating track with a notoriously difficult camber and the testing descent from Tattenham Corner into the home straight that has ended the chances of many a favourite and produced some of the most dramatic moments in British sporting history. For London racegoers Epsom Downs is extraordinarily accessible — just 35 minutes from London Victoria to Tattenham Corner station, which sits directly at the course entrance, or from London Bridge and Waterloo to Epsom Town with a short taxi. This makes Derby Day one of the truly great London day trips: a world-famous race at one of sport’s most distinctive venues, reached in little more than half an hour from the capital without a car.
